The representatives serve as a representative of MASA on the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is the governing body for the MSHSL. Representatives will serve on MSHSL committees as appointed by the MSHSL President and approved by the MSHSL Board of Directors.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Must be a current superintendent in a public school district.
Must be a current superintendent in a school district that is in the same MSHSL designated Class originally selected by MASA to represent.
Must be an active member of MASA.
NUMBER OF POSITIONS There are two guaranteed positions for superintendents on the MSHSL Board of Directors. One position is for a superintendent to represent Class A, and the other position is for a superintendent to represent Class AA.
TERMS OF POSITIONS
Class A position term commences August 1, 2021, and ends July 31, 2025
Class AA position commences August 1, 2021, and ends July 31, 2023. a. The Class AA position converts to a four year term beginning August 1, 2023.
According to MSHSL by-laws a representative is limited to one four year term. a. The Class AA representative appointed to serve the two year term beginning August 1, 2021 and ending July 31, 2023 is not eligible for one additional four year term.
VACANCIES Should a vacancy occur, the MASA Board of Directors will develop a process to fulfill the remainder of the term. Information about the established process will be made available to all members.
EXPECTATIONS OF REPRESENTATIVES
Attend all MSHSL Board of Director and committee meetings as requested and required.
Provide the MASA Board of Directors with either a written, or oral report of involvement and activities as a representative of the MSHSL Board of Directors at quarterly MASA Board of Director meetings.
Follow the rules, procedures, by-laws, and other protocols of the MSHSL.
Represent the sentiment of school districts in the MSHSL Class designated to represent.
Seek feedback and input regularly from the MASA Board of Directors, MASA Executive Director and school districts in the Class representing.
Assume position on the MSHSL Board of Directors August 1 of the designated year.
Notify in writing the MASA Executive Director and Board of Directors if for any reason unable to fulfill the term due to illness, changing school districts from one Class to another, retirement, or leaving the school district of employment when the original appointment to a representative position on the MSHSL Board of Directors occurred. If the representative moves to a district outside of the Class he or she represents, the representative will be replaced, via an established process by the Board of Directors, with a new representative of the appropriate Class.
