Professional Bio

Matt Grose began serving as Superintendent of Grand Rapids Area Schools on July 1, 2020. Matt was selected as Superintendent through a search process that included staff, students, families, and community members.

Prior to coming to our district, Matt served as the Superintendent of Deer River Public Schools for 14 years after serving as high school principal there for 3 years. Matt's teaching experience includes teaching senior high math and computer science in the Twin Cities area as well as adjunct work at Bethel University. His Master's Degree in Education is from Saint Mary's University and his Principal and Superintendent certifications, as well as a certificate in School Technology Leadership, are from the University of Minnesota. His leadership interests include resilience, leadership, culture, and change.

Matt has also served as the chair of the Itasca Area Schools Collaborative (IASC), on the Governor's Broadband Task Force, the Blandin Foundation's Broadband Strategy Board, the board of Think Small, the Leech Lake Boys and Girls Club Board, the Itasca Community College Foundation Board and the board of Ready4K, a state-wide early childhood education advocacy group. Matt serves on a number of committees for the Minnesota Association of School Administrators and was recently named to the legislatively-appointed Compensatory Revenue Task Force.
