Professional Bio
A respected voice in public education, Dr. Schmidt is MASA Region VI Chair Elect and serves on MASA’s Legislative Advocacy and Executive Development Committees. He received the 2023 MASA Professionalism Award for his leadership, student advocacy, and positive representation of superintendents at all levels. He regularly testifies at the Minnesota Legislature on school funding, infrastructure, employment policy, and student services.
Dr. Schmidt has increased district reserves, passed referendums, and built partnerships that support student success. His leadership is equity-focused and data-driven, with a strong emphasis on curriculum and community engagement.
Previously, he was Superintendent and PreK–12 Principal at Lester Prairie Public Schools. His classroom and coaching experience spans preschool to college, including teaching grades 3–8 in Jackson County Central, St. Clair, and Dassel-Cokato.
Originally from Greenwood, WI, Dr. Schmidt earned a B.S. in Education from St. Cloud State University, where he played basketball, and an M.A., administrative licensure, and Ed.D. from Saint Mary’s University. He also holds certifications from the AASA National Superintendent Program and Advanced Leadership Academy.
He and his wife, Kristi, live in Becker with their children, Matthew and Piper, and their puppy, Quincy "Norm". They enjoy reading, sports, and traveling.
