Plan to bring your leadership team!
Make plans to join us for the 2018 MDE/MASA Back to School Conference, August 7-8 at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest. Minnesota has worked together with stakeholders to develop a shared definition of and ten commitments to equity. Educational equity is the condition of justice, fairness and inclusion insuring that all students have access to the opportunities to learn and develop to their fullest potentials. Our keynote speakers and breakout session presenters will explore current practice and research supporting true educational equity in our school systems. Bring a team and benefit from the chance to discuss how what you are learning impacts your own district. The conference follows the MSBA Summer Seminar, and our new superintendents will want to stay on Wednesday afternoon for our first session of the Great Start Cohort.

School Finance Elections: A Comprehensive Planning Model for Success
MASA and Springsted Incorporated will offer two sessions next year of the popular workshop
Monday, October 8, 2018
Monday, April 8, 2019
9:15 am - 4 pm
at the MASA Building in St. Paul
Based on past workshops, registering a district team is highly recommended to ensure a common understanding.
This is a workshop based on the book of the same title co-authored by our presenter, Dr. Don Lifto. The workshop’s content represents a marriage of research and successful practice, emphasizing systems and strategies rather than specific campaign tactics, allowing school administrators to elevate their thinking to a more comprehensive and long-range vision of election planning. Don has worked with dozens of school districts running operating, bond, and technology elections throughout the US, and is a well-known and respected presenter and author on the topic of finance elections.
Registration will be available this summer. In the meantime, mark your calendar!
The idea for this podcast originated with the MASA Professional Development Committee and the Board of Directors, who indicated a desire to “hear from our members.” The podcast format was chosen specifically to be presented in manageable time increments, available on-demand, and would represent all members throughout the state (including all regions and component groups). The podcast is an audio platform, giving you flexibility in how and when you would like to listen. The episodes will be no longer than fifteen minutes. We will engage the region leaders in identifying topics and thought leaders to insure statewide representation.
MASA is grateful to our online convener and podcaster, Dr. Jane Sigford, who has volunteered her services for this initiative. Jane is an MASA retiree and loves nothing more than challenging us (and herself) to think, create, and share ideas. To view Episodes Click Here
► Sample Some of the MASA ExpertEase Videos!
As part of our strategic plan to deliver a multi-tiered system of professional development that meets the individualized learning goals of all members, MASA has partnered with Infinitec to create a library of professional development videos that are available to MASA members 24/7. Members can view these videos for their personal professional development and also to engage their teams in discussions surrounding critical topics. We now have forty-five videos online and we feature a wide variety of topics. MASA members can complete their PD requirements for teacher relicensure at no cost, and we have a good start on the required EL topics for administrative licensure renewal. Starting this month, we will be offering several sample videos that will be directly linked from the MASA web site (no sign-in required). See below for the videos that will are available until May. We hope you enjoy these videos; please let us know what you think! Click here for the entire library!
► Referendum Response
MASA began this initiative to help school districts deal with organized referendum opposition. This page contains background information on anti-referendum campaigns and how school districts can prepare and respond.
