Leading with Excellence and Equity 

The team at the UnitedHealth Group Equity Innovation Center (EIC) at the YMCA of the North is excited to partner with MASA for the Leading with Excellence and Equity series. The initial and closing sessions will be held in person at the EIC. The other six sessions will be held virtually. This series of experiences is designed to 1) increase awareness of self and others; 2) develop effective strategies for increasing positive intercultural relationships; and 3) explore approaches for creating workplace culture that is diverse, inclusive, and equitable.

Equity Innovation Experience #1 (in-person)

  • Identify intentional actions for a culture of belonging

Session 1: Cultural Agility (virtual)
February 7, 2023

Objectives:
  • Describe what cultural agility looks like in your environment
  • Recognize the need to develop cultural agility
  • Create intentional action steps to develop cultural agility
 
Session 2: Dimensions of Diversity and Culture (virtual)
February 21, 2023
8:00 am – 10:00 am
Objectives:
  • Distinguish how the dimensions of diversity intersect with one another
  • Recognize how identity and culture interact within environments/sphere of influence
  • Identify complexities of personal dimensions of diversity

Session 3: Mental Models and Bias (virtual)
March 7, 2023

Objectives:
  • Identify how mental models shape interacting with the world
  • Recognize how and where biases are formed
  • Learn how to navigate and interrupt biases

Session 4: Movements and Moments (virtual)

  • Identify systems that shape movements
  • Develop a connection to the racialized history of the United States

Session 5: Culture and Systems Change (virtual)

  • Gain understanding of how systems influence organizational culture
  • Explore the importance of systems thinking and systems change for growing a more equitable culture
 
Session 6: Systemic Racism (virtual)
April 18, 2023

  • Differentiate between individual and systemic racism
  • Identify how culture has been influenced by systemic racism
  • Identify ways that systemic racism impacts the current reality

  • Experience the EIC with an increased awareness of equity and systems
  • Identify current situation, desired future state, and gaps between the two
  • Create an action plan to achieve desired future state

Parking. There is a parking structure under the YMCA, but the capacity of the ramp is somewhat limited. We do not own the ramp. The name of the Gaviidae Commons Garage. Gaviidae is on the corner of 6th and Nicollet, circled in red below. The garage entrance is off 6th Street, on the right hand side. 6th Street is a one-way street heading southeast (above 7th Street by one block in the map below).

Spots in the ramp can be reserved in advance through the iParkit smart phone app by creating an account and reserving parking under the garage name Gaviidae Commons Garage. You may also pay a simple hourly rate onsite in the ramp.
