State Health Improvement Plan
Information
Posted
November 5, 2008
The Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) was developed in response to the 2007 MN State Legislature’s request to develop a plan for statewide health promotion to address the rising cost of health and health care in our state. SHIP, which is an expanded version of the Steps to a HealthierMN model, will help Minnesotans live longer, better, healthier lives by reducing the burden of chronic disease. To improve the health of Minnesotans, grantees will utilize policy, systems, and environmental changes in four settings: schools, worksites, health care, and community. SHIP efforts will focus on obesity (through physical inactivity and unhealthy eating) and tobacco as the key risk factors to target interventions in fiscal years 2010-2011.
This is a major funding opportunity for Minnesota communities. Though community health boards will apply directly for the funds, school leaders will play a large part in working to secure these competitive grants and develop action plans. Click here to view a SHIP Summary. Click here to view the SHIP website for additional information.
MASA will keep you posted as information is forthcoming.

TYPE III
BUS RULES..... FINAL DISPOSITION
Posted October 9,
2009
Well, we gave it our best shot and came up pretty much
empty handed!!! As many of you know, MASA arranged for 5
Superintendents to meet with the MN Highway Patrol and the MN
Department of Public Safety to make the case for a different
interpretation of the new rules regarding the licensing of school
employees to drive Type III Vans. Bob Belluzzo, Bruce Klaehn,
Dave Thompson, Scott Thielman and Connie Hayes could not have been
anymore clear in this meeting about the hardships placed on school
districts by the present interpretation of this new legislation.

Education
Survey of the 2008 MN Legislative Candidates
Posted September 19,
2008
The three professional educational leadership
associations, MASSP, MESPA and MASA joined in a partnership, to
conduct a survey of Minnesota political candidates for the State
Legislature and US Congress. The questions in the survey correspond
to our legislative platforms. Those candidates who answered “Yes”
to every question are designated as “highly rated education
candidates” and are listed on the three web sites of our respective
associations. Not all candidates responded to the survey. The
questions follow, along with the responses of the political
candidates, as a resource for you and your staffs both before and
after the November 4th election. To view the survey Click Here
